Assignment 1
Evaluation and Assessment
Evaluation and Assessment
Data Sort
Using the gender gap data I identified in "Evaluation and Assessment" I completed a data sort, that shows proficiency on the MEAP between males and females, in 8th grade Science. Over all the trend shows males continue to out preform females on testing. Further review of the data, shows at levels two and three the trend flips with girls out performing males in proficiency. The use of spread sheets can show data from different perspectives, simply reordering data can allow teachers and students to gain additional information to understand data.

I created a graph to represent male and female scores from 2009-2014. The chart show females scoring lower in MEAP Science over a period of time.

Perception, Survey Data and Charts and Graph
Perception, Survey Data and Charts and Graph
Using the data from my Learning Survey, I sorted two specific columns to determine if students felt more confidence in Science or Math. The table shows students, agreed they are better in math than science. I was not surprised by these results, many students do not see the connection between the two. As science becomes a more stand alone subject in middle school, there is a importance to continue to promote the connection between math and science.

Thing 19
For my digital story I choose to use Storybird. I also tried out Animoto. Students can use videos as a support to collect data, share, collaborate and build on subject content. Through modification students can participate in the creation of the video, edit, rewrite, and practice peer interaction to complete work.
The above video was created in Animoto. A teaching strategy I use in my classroom is Talking Points. I created this video and presented it at staff meeting. I asked my students to share how using this strategy helps them learn. They were excited to participate and were engaged in the process of not only creating the video but sharing their ideas of how talking points engages them in their learning.
