Communication Today's Meet
|
|
I choose choice #2 BackChannel Chat. Since we were starting a new unit, I had the students walk through the chapter and identify new vocabulary and develop upfront questions about the text we we going to learn about. I have used Today's Meet for several lessons. I noticed that students demonstrate on-task behavior. Everyone is participating in the process. I use today's meet for taking polls and exit tickets. I hope to try some new activities, such as anonymous feedback and trying to connect to other classroom or even a different district.

Zamzar-0n Line Convert
I believe that the online converter would be a useful resource to the science classroom. Students could use this program to have text read. Often students struggle with vocabulary in reading science text, having Zamzar or On- Line convert would allow them to stop or start the program, to pace their learning. Engaging students to use different senses could increase learning as well. Our study group had difficulty using the Zamzar, so our presentation is done on On-Line Convert

LiveBinder
This looks like a very useful site to help a teacher organize and present resources. As I wander through the 21 things, I was wondering where I can keep a central location of all the new resources . Live Binder would be an excellent site to collect and store the 21 things. I like how you can add the Live Binder Link to your tool bar as you browse the net. It will come in handy to collect or gather useful resources to store in your binder. Students would benefit from the use of this site, organization skills could be easily taught.

Digital Citizenship
All 9 themes are important for students in the 7th grade classroom. Digital Etiquette would be one of my strengths. As a teacher who encourages the use of technology, we teach and model acceptabe use. We teach rules and responsibility and must model proper protocol. Digital Literacy, is a weakness that I feel I would need to review and research. Our school is stating to integrate technology with chrome books in every classroom. We are currently identifying the proper technology to use with the curriculum. There are so many programs available, it can be confusing. Many students are learning to use the technology for the first time. I see them struggling to learn how to use the programs, that they lose focus of the lesson. Another concern I have is, are we using the right programs that will help them succeed after leaving our schools. My daughter just finished college and talking with her, she felt the technology she used in high school was completely different from college. Now she is entering the workforce and is learning different technology once again. So, I agree the students we have today must learn to be versatile in technology.
I posted a few sites and the CRAAP Test Reminder Poster on my lesson plan page

Thing 9 Be Legal and Fair
I added this video for future use. I plan on sharing this before research projects to help students be aware of the importance of citing others work and help prevent plagiarism.

Copy Write Quiz Reflection
A time when I may have unknowingly broken a copy write law in the classroom is the use of videos in my lessons. I always try to give credit to the video as a whole. After reading and taking the quiz, I may not have done enough to recognize the use of its images. I learned that even if it is public domain additional permissions may be needed to use its images. After taking the quiz, I was surprised how much I needed to be aware of the terms involved in copy writes. I was unaware of how many times one can use ones work under Fair Use. I will need to be more diligent how often I use another work, due to the work then is less likely to be considered as Fair Use. In the future, I plan on citing in my lesson plans. Although fair use is in place for use in teaching, proper diligence is needed to abide the Fair Use Doctrine.

Plagiarism
I used the Dupli Checker for a paper I wrote for another class. This is the first time I ever used this type of resource. Many students in middle school are just learning about plagiarism and writing reports in Science. I can see using this in the classroom to help students understand the importance of citing work. When we do reports or research projects students struggle with paraphrasing and putting research in their own words. They may not even be aware that they are plagiarizing. I think, I would encourage the students to check their work in hopes that they will learn and improve in their own abilities to not plagiarize or unknowingly use someones material.

Differentiating Instruction for Advanced Learners in the Mixed Ability Middle School Classroom
